What is galvanising?
Galvanising is the process of coating the steel in a corrosion resistant protective layer. Galvanising is used very frequently on bolts and washers as it is a cost efficient way of adding corrosion resistance to the product whilst keeping all the tensile properties, which for bolting style applications, specifically structural applications is very important. Stainless steel would be the most corrosion resistant metal possible, but as the base metal cannot be hardened, it is frequently not strong enough to be used for certain applications. Galvanised washers are available in both mild steel and high tensile and are the most common types of bolts supplied in australia. All galvanised washers should be used in conjunction with galvanised finish bolts
