What is galvanising?

Galvanising is the process of coating the steel in a corrosion resistant protective layer. Galvanising is used very frequently on bolts as it is a cost efficient way of adding corrosion resistance to the bolt whilst keeping all the tensile properties, which for bolting application, specifically structural applications is very important. Stainless steel would be the most corrosion resistant metal possible, but as the base metal cannot be hardened, it is frequently not strong enough to be used for certain applications. Galvanised bolts are available in both mild steel and high tensile and are the most common types of bolts supplied in australia.
